How to make a robot sing
Generative A.I. is on everyone’s mind at the moment. Its controversial. People’s hardworking shouldn’t be taken out of context, discredited, misused without the original creator’s content or permission. However the same was said about sampling, DJing and electronic music.
What if we’re all just a singular consciousness meant to remix each other’s work?
What if there was a way to create art using A.I. that doesn’t reference another’s work?
What if prompts, like language, like writing, is the art instead?
I tried to get A.I. to paint/draw for me and wanted to treat it like a collaborator instead of a vessel which exist just to create a final product. Generative A.I. is not magic, it comes with its own set of limitations just like any other tool.
As Generative A.I. is unable to reproduce an exact copy of the image before, certain prompt based based boundaries have to be used. The project is also about giving up or the lack of control. The A.I. however, often interprets these commands on its own accord and often starts to generate its own interpretations with surprising outcomes.
With every stroke of pastel the prompt increases in length, eventually resulting in a small paragraph. That’s when I noticed a pattern and assign alphabets to each condition. Almost like basic algebra. The next step would be to write very basic code using these glyphs and then seeing how A.I. interprets these “equations”.
