I was approached by the organisers of WHOLE to be the designer of the 2022 edition
of their festival.
WHOLE - United Queer Festival is a queer music festival organized by an association of Berlin underground party collectives since 2017. It is the first queer electronic music festival in Europe.
The festival was first held at Bergheider See in Brandenburg from August 25-27, 2017, and since the second edition in 2018, the Ferropolis site at Gremminer See in Saxony-Anhalt has been the venue. It was founded by Chris Phillips and Raquel Fedato out of a desire to create a protected space for queer people that other electronic music festivals in Europe did not offer, but queer parties in Berlin and other cities did.
Different collectives should have a common project with the festival to bring the queer scene together. Founding collectives included Members, Pornceptual, TrashEra, G day, female:pressure, Riot, and Liber Null. Other Berlin collectives such as Room 4 Resistance, Lick, Buttons, and CockTail d'Amore, as well as collectives from New York (Unter), Lisbon (mina), Mexico City (Traición), London (Horse Meat Disco), and other cities joined later.
In addition to electronic music, there are various performances, workshops and installations. Musicians and other artists performing at the festival are mostly queer themselves. There is a focus on female, trans, and non-binary DJs and performers, who are said to make up at least half of all artists performing.[5][6] Well-known musicians who have performed and are performing at WHOLE include Kim Ann Foxman, Octo Octa, Oliver Deutschmann, The Blessed Madonna, and Noncompliant
Resident Advisor recommended the third edition in 2019 as one of the world's top ten festivals in June 2019.
